The role of participatory innovations in the quality of democracy
The aim of this panel is to examine the public’s awareness, as well as its actual and prospective participation at the local level in several major forms of participatory schemes, including Participatory Budgeting, referendums, citizen assemblies and citizen juries.
Two of the proposed papers will present recent findings from a large-scale survey that includes a conjoint experiment conducted in 2022 in 10 European countries (Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain and the UK). The remaining papers are based chiefly on qualitative approaches and are focused on participatory budgeting.
