An unstamped letter delivered at the premisses of T24 news website in Istanbul revealed an assassination plot against T24 and Cumhuriyet columnist Aydın Engin as well as Taraf columnist Murat Belge.

“I don’t think the letter came from pro-Atatürk, pro-coup, nationalist or fascist circles. I have been writing critical articles against the government since Gezi protests. I guess they want to frighten, seize the hand of the writer and stop his writing. This is why they are threatening this way,” Murat Belge told T24.

A “duty” was assigned

The letter was found out yesterday around 17:00 local time. It cited that “decisions” were made on the aforementioned columnists and “assignments” were poised.

Written in handwriting with blue ink, the letter addressed to “Mr Aydın Engin, a patriot” wrote the following:

“Decisions have been made for Aydın Engin and Murat Belge, and individuals have been assigned. The date will be announced consequently. As a patriot, I find it very wrong [word written with a typo in the original Turkish version]. I urge you.”
