The project "M4CD – Media for Citizens and Democracy in the Digital Age" aims to strengthen media pluralism and press freedom within the EU and candidate countries by promoting the ethical use of AI, addressing SLAPPs, and enhancing democratic participation.
Through research, training, and policy dialogue, M4CD targets journalists, academics, students, citizens, journalists union representatives, and policymakers. As one of the M4CD partner organisations, OBCT shares the commitment to the promotion of democratic resilience by fostering best practices and knowledge exchange, critical thinking, and media literacy.
The project will deliver research and training modules on AI in journalism and legal protection against SLAPPs, organisation of workshops and webinars, production of awareness materials, policy briefs and recommendations on AI ethics, SLAPP protection, and implementation of the anti-SLAPP directive, final report summarising lessons learned and good practices, events recommendations for national and EU-level advocacy.
Overall, the expected results include increased awareness of AI ethics and SLAPPs, improved capacity of media organizations to resist legal intimidation, enhanced cross-border cooperation, concrete policy influence, and promotion of gender equality.
