Moldova: summer at the lake

Moldova is a landlocked country, but its inhabitants don't give up the pleasure of spending a day on the beach. In Chişinău there are several urban parks that have bathing lakes within them. A photo-report by Francesco Brusa

From the central Valea Morilor, surrounded by a pedestrian path, to the "suburban forests" of the Buiucani, Ciocana and Botanica neighborhoods, where people dive into the waters of the green areas of La Izvor, Răşcani and Valea Trandafirilor. There are many lakes in the capital Chişinău.
Or you can opt for the river Nistru, in particular the spa of Vadul Lui Vodă which, despite its small size is now teeming with camping sites, colonies and small restaurants.

Services — Around the beach of Vadul Lui Vodă there are several hotels and camping areas, as well as a number of small restaurants and clubs

On the bus — Several city buses depart from the capital Chişinău to Vadul Lui Vodă

Ghidighici lake — Lake Ghidighici, near the small town of Vatra

Swimming — A swimming competition takes place annually at the Ghidighici lake

From Chișinău to Ghidinci — Frequent city buses from the capital have the Ghidighici lake as their stop

In the Buiucani district of Chişinău lies the vast La Izvor park with several lakes

Urban beaches — Almost all the urban beaches of Chişinău are supplied with bathing equipment

Barbecues — Alongside the "seaside life" the inhabitants perform various activities, from simple walks to moments of conviviality such as picnics and barbecues

In the heart of the capital, the park of Valea Morilor is perhaps one of the best equipped

Rowing — At the Valea Morilor lake, one can experiment with rowing and kayaking

Diplomats — Valea Morilor is located next to the Chişinău University headquarters and to several embassies

USSR — The construction of Valea Morilor was initiated at the time of Leonid Brezhnev

Wind — At the end of the afternoon, the wind lifts the sand of the Nistru in Vadul Lui Vodă

Rain — A sudden downpour marks the end of the day at the "sea" of Vadul Lui Vodă

At home — The last beach umbrellas and deckchairs are collected under the rain
