Cumhuriyet Newspaper Executive Board President Akın Atalay has been detained at Atatürk Airport where Atalay returned from abroad.

Brought to a police station, Atalay will then be taken to İstanbul Security Directorate.

What had happened?

Atalay’s house was raided during the operation launched into Cumhuriyet daily employees on October 31.

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, Akın Atalay, who was invited by Republican People’s Party (CHP) Koln Association and Nazım Hikmet Foundation to memorial service of Tarık Akan, was in Germany during the operation.

On Prosecutor Murat İnam’s demand, Cumhuriyet daily Editor-in-Chief Murat Sabuncu, Publishing Consultant Kadri Gürsel, caricaturist Musa Kart, Cumhuriyet Foundation Executive Board of Managers members Önder Çelik, Bülent Utku, Mustafa Kemal Güngör, Güray Öz, Hakan Kara, Book Supplement Editor-in-Chief Turhan Günay were arrested on charge of “committing crime on the behalf of FETÖ/PDY and PKK/KCK terrorist organizations though not being members of them”.

Warrant had been issued for Atalay.

Atalay in his message he sent had said that he would return to Turkey.
